Seminar Season 4 to kick off this week

September 26, 2011

Greetings, everyone! Enterprise Development Director Peter Gregory stepping in for an update on events at the Accelerator.

It is hard to believe we will soon be starting our 4th entrepreneur seminar series as the second anniversary of the opening of the Accelerator approaches at the end of October.

This Thursday, Sept. 29, join us for our season opener – a Web Business Makeover seminar with Sugar Websites’  co-founder and CMO, Kay Rubacek. Kay has 13 years of executive experience as a Marketing Consultant in the IT, publishing, and retail sectors.

Host Kay Rubacek of Sugar Websites will facilitate a 60-minute presentation and discussion on how the rapidly changing world of the Web is either boosting small businesses to new levels or leaving them behind, feeling overwhelmed and helpless.

You’ll leave the session with a sense of hope and understanding of how your business fits within the rapidly changing Internet world. You will also gain practical knowledge and tools to get your business up to speed and prepared for growth.

Mark Krohn and Gary Schuster, of Jacobowitz & Gubitz, direct the Entrepreneur Knowledge Series event titled “Private Placement: Raising Capital From People You Know” on Wednesday, March 30, at Orange County Business Accelerator in New Windsor, N.Y.

On Thursday, Oct. 6, we’ll host “Branding: Don’t Sell the Steak– Sell the Sizzle” with marketing expert Steven Powell, a former Vice President of Creative Services for a multi-million dollar ad agency in NYC with more than a dozen industry awards and over 25 years of branding, design and marketing experience. He is currently President and Creative Director of Co-oper8 Marketing Group, a branding and marketing firm based the Hudson Valley.

Branding is more than just a shiny logo or a clever catch phrase. This 60-minute presentation takes an in-depth look at the making of a good brand from the ground up using real-world examples to illustrate each point. You’ll leave with sales-enhancing advice that can be immediately put into use.

Tracking Systems making good ground here at the Accelerator

September 18, 2011

With a growing client base and network opportunities, Accelerator client Tracking Systems has been making good ground in the Hudson Valley. Check out this first-hand account from owner Robert Glemming:

“The Accelerator has introduced me to government officials in Orange County, who have helped me develop a potential food chain for my products. My latest clients are a Boars Head food distributor and a Tow Truck Company. These are unique because of our monitoring capabilities. For Boars Head, we’re able to monitor temperature in the unit to ensure the meats and cheeses stay fresh. For the tow company, we are able to monitor the use of the pulley motor that pulls a vehicle onto the flat bed.  This way an owner knows when a vehicle is in tow.”

Glemming and his team have been a client at the Accelerator for nearly six months and they are already seeing great results! Be sure to visit them at the Accelerator if you stop by, or log on to to read more about them!

On a side note, many thanks to those who stopped by and said hi at our Orange County Chamber of Commerce Business Expo booth last week…The Chamber continues to be Orange County’s best business marketing arm and we appreciate everything they do!

First Accelerator client gearing up for graduation

September 12, 2011

We can proudly say that we are soon to graduate our first Accelerator client, Continental Organics.

When co-owners Mike Finnegan and Tom Endres first walked through our doors in early 2010, they had a vision for their company – an independently-owned and operated large-scale aquaculture operation strategically located right here in Orange County, N.Y.

Joined by more than 100 members of the Orange County business community, Continental Organics last Thursday premiered its 900,000-square-foot, $50 million aquaponics operation on a property in the Town of New Windsor. The firm will utilize the facility to simultaneously cultivate plants and fish in a symbiotic environment, and will employ more than 125 people at full build.

We’d like to congratulate Continental Organics on successfully achieving their goals under the estimated 3-year plan at the Accelerator!

Please visit our Facebook page for a full gallery of photos from the event.

Since opening our doors 94 weeks ago, the Accelerator has attracted 16 early-stage innovators with nearly 60 people working as our 10,000-square-foot facility in New York International Plaza at Stewart Airport.

From cancer research equipment to energy efficiency technology… from cell phone applications to silicon chip research… and from aquaculture to digital, web-based innovation. Our field of diversity keeps on growing!

Keep up the great work, everyone!
