Accelerating around the Northeast

Enterprise Development Director Peter Gregory here, stepping in once again to bring you the latest buzz on biz at the Accelerator! This past week I spent some time outside Orange County learning new means by which we could accelerate our clients to new heights, faster and more efficiently.

First stop: An open business forum with Upstate Venture Association of New York (UVANY) at the Tech Garden (business incubator) in Syracuse, N.Y.

Mission: China

Janet Carmosky, UVANY panel moderator and Founder & CEO, China Business Network

Christine Montag, Co-Founder and COO, Ladybug Technologies, presenting her elevator pitch during the “Entrepreneur Minute” of June’s UVANY monthly meeting.

The panel discussion, moderated by China Business Network Founder and CEO Janet Carmosky, included trade leaders from such notable New York State businesses Welch Allyn and ConMEd.  Key “take-aways” from the evening included insights into managing intellectual property while dealing with China, as well as maintaining awareness of cultural differences that emphasize radically different behavioral characteristics – two things that any business leader seeking to do business with China needs to keep at top-of-mind. For all growth-oriented business leaders in our region, it is truly worth your time to attend meetings to enhance your knowledge and contact base.

Second stop: 2011 CT Business Expo at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford on Thursday, June 9.

Mission: Digital Marketing.

Bloomberg economist Richard Yamarone on-stage, interviewed by Connecticut’s WDRC commentator, Dan Lovallo.

Brian Scott-Smith, former BBC announcer, producing an impromptu YouTube video from the show floor, with a local CT political candidate.

There I met with scores of entrepreneurs and service providers to “take a reading” on what other growth-stage business leaders from around the US Northeast are doing to keep up with the challenges of the economy these days. The event highlighted a national economic outlook from Bloomberg economist Richard Yamarone, as well as a networking opportunity with dozens of businesses headquartered in our neighbor state to the East.  Connecticut, in its entirety, bears similarities to the greater Hudson Valley as a region of New York, and attendance at these annual CT events is well worth the investment of a day for competitive benchmarking,  cultivating new contacts and sales leads, and refreshing your own business strategy with new competitive techniques.

The Accelerator incorporates digital marketing in its everyday operation- through social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube and our blog) and internet advertising (online flash banner ads on Mid-Hudson News). We’re always looking for new digital media to enhance our client services and soar to new entrepreneurial heights.

What are you doing to enhance your digital media presence? Feel free to comment!

Also, congrats to our newest client, 911 Family of Products! With them, the Accelerator now boasts 16 clients and tenants! Keep up the good work, everyone!
