Human Resources seminar at the Accelerator a home run

September 27, 2010

After a brief hiatus this summer, the Accelerator’s Entrepreneur Knowledge Series came back with a bang last week!

Over four dozen human resource representatives from around the Hudson Valley packed the Accelerator’s interactive media room to sharpen their HR skills with Tom Lemmey and Ed Kowalski of Ethan Allen Personnel Group, one of the Accelerator’s first resident clients, as the event’s guest speakers.

Ethan Allen Personnel Group offers job seekers and companies complete and up-to-date permanent and temporary employment services. If you are seeking top quality reliable employees or employment, or if you are looking for a source of off-site personnel services such as payroll, employee benefits, or risk management, Ethan Allen Personnel Group will meet all of your staffing and human resource needs.

Attendees of the event were given refreshers on recruiting tactics, skill-matching processes, the rights of employers and job applicants in the recruiting process and general HR policies and procedures, among a host of other HR topics.

The Entrepreneur Knowledge Series continues to become a growing source of professional knowledge in the Hudson Valley. Professionals from as far as New York City and further Upstate have visited the Accelerator with hopes that our educational seminars will in some way enhance and expand their business.

If you haven’t done so already, visit the Accelerator to see just how it is helping early-stage innovators from around the country increase their level of service and take their businesses to the next level. Also, join us for the next edition of our next Entrepreneur Knowledge Series on Wednesday, Oct. 27, when Cynthia Marsh Croll, of Croll Productive Synergy, brings us the discussion “Increase Your Profitability by Improving Productivity.”

We hope to see you soon at the Intersection of Capital, Talent…and Innovation!

Accelerator picking up its marketing, advertising efforts this Fall

September 20, 2010

Though the end of the year may be a time when most organizations and businesses around the Hudson Valley are toning down marketing and advertising efforts, the Accelerator is picking up the pace! Enterprise Development Director Peter Gregory and I have been busy attending networking events and organizing new advertising campaigns with our marketing partners at Focus Media.

Peter and I last week participated in the largest trade show in the Hudson Valley, the Orange County Chamber of Commerce Business Expo at Anthony’s Pier 9. With more than 200 businesses and organizations in the same building, the Accelerator took full advantage of the great opportunities provided by this grand event!

The next day, we spent some time with members of the Rockland Business Association for a luncheon that focused on healthcare for small businesses, a strong concern throughout the business community. It was the perfect opportunity to mingle with our colleagues in the business world next door from us and proved to be an enlightening event. We will attend a similar event with the Westchester County Association next month, as well as another trade show later this month, sponsored by the New York State Business Council.

We are now taking advertising to new heights at the Accelerator! We are ready to launch an advertising campaign at Stewart International Airport ready for display in the upcoming weeks. Next time you travel through the Gateway to the Hudson Valley, look for our ad in the Arrivals section!

We are also discussing options at two other major airports- Westchester County Airport and Albany International Airport. We have great faith in the advertising opportunities these three airports provide. Businessmen and women, entrepreneurs, college students and others will pass through these gates, see a magnificent display outlining how the Accelerator can help them achieve their goals, and hopefully, become future clients.

The last quarter of the year is a time for businesses and organizations to reflect upon the past year’s achievements and how they can improve. This year the Accelerator has utilized an integrated online and print marketing campaign, as well as social media marketing, to spread its message. The Accelerator is constantly looking for new and innovative ways to help grow real jobs, real close to home. One suggestion: never stop networking and looking for new marketing opportunities.

The Intersection of Capital, Talent…and Innovation is in business, for your business, year-round.

Human Resource Management the hot topic at September Entrepreneur Knowledge Series

September 13, 2010

Hello, everyone. Enterprise Development Director Peter Gregory here to let you know about the upcoming Entrepreneur Knowledge Series event, the first since taking a brief hiatus to enjoy the summer, but it definitely was no vacation.

We spent the summer planning for the fall in great anticipation of the direction the labor market would take us in the fourth quarter of 2010. Moving forward, we decided what better way to celebrate Labor Day than to make Human Resources, often an underappreciated practice, the topic of our next event.

On Wednesday, Sept. 22, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., guest speakers Tom Lemmey and Ed Kowalski, both of Ethan Allen Personnel Group, a resident client at the Accelerator, will present “Human Resources in Small and Early-Stage Companies- What You Don’t Know May Hurt You.” The discussion will focus on important compliance issues small businesses must address when building their corporate teams.

Cost is $10 per person and students are FREE! A light lunch and a tour of the Accelerator are included. Pre-register to ensure your seat at one of the best monthly education series in the region!

As the growing business community in Orange County and the Hudson Valley looks to bounce back during this economic climate, it is crucial that organizations like the Accelerator provide a foundation for important issues such as the hiring process, employee relations, performance and behavior management, as well as many other human resource issues, at a time when businesses need it most.

Join us for the latest buzz on biz at the Accelerator! See you on Sept. 22!

The Accelerator welcomes Congressman Maurice Hinchey

September 6, 2010

With a welcome from Orange County IDA Chairman Jim Petro, IDA Attorney Phil Crotty and others, Congressman Maurice Hinchey visited the Accelerator last week to tour the facility and become familiar with our current clients.

In his first visit to the Accelerator, the Congressman met with several of our clients, including Array Optronix, a company that is currently utilizing space across the street at 33 Airport Center Drive while we complete the fit-up and facilitation of their 1,800-square-foot facility at the Accelerator. After touring the Accelerator, the Congressman expressed his sincere congratulations on reaching near maximum capacity in less than nine months.

Congressman Maurice Hinchey and OCBA Managing Director Michael DiTullo tour the soon-to-be Array Optronix suite at the Accelerator with Array CEO Fred Flitsch, right.

After touring the facility, Congressman Hinchey sat down with Jim Johnson, Vice President at EGuardian Systems, a resident client at the Accelerator, and his staff to learn more about the company’s energy-efficient H.I.D. lighting technology.

EGuardian Systems recently announced that it would be utilizing the services of Newburgh Metals for its manufacturing needs, instead of going overseas, a common practice of corporations in the United States today.

The Accelerator is a strong proponent of local firms utilizing the services of other local companies before looking elsewhere, whether it is for manufacturing, distribution or any other of the many support services available right here in Orange County.

This has a positive economic impact on the workforce, as it helps to keep real jobs, real close to home!

We at the Accelerator would like to thank the Congressman for his continued support of our organization and his continued dedication to growing the business community in our region. He appreciates, as does the IDA and County Executive Edward Diana, that when you create jobs, you create taxpayers.
